Travel Team Information & Results

2017-2018 Travel

Travel Tryouts will be held October 3rd and 4th at Westfield High School in the MPIF.  Teams will then be established for Winter 2017-2018 season.

General Travel Guidelines 

Please register under "Travel Team Registration" to the left if you would like to be involved in girls travel basketball, 3rd grade through 8th grade for the 2017-2018 school year.

We often use the term "Competitive Basketball" instead of "Travel".  Games occur in Westfield or other schools within 1 hour of Westfield, Indiana as part of the Indy Girls Hoops League.  Indy Girls Hoops League is the largest league of its kind, with over 180 teams participating in grades 3rd through 8th.

Tryouts will occur October 3rd and 4th, at Westfield High School in the MPIF 

3rd grade at 5:30-6:15PM

4th grade at 6:15-7:00PM

5th grade at 7:00-7:45PM

6th grade at 7:45-8:30PM

The cost to participate will be $250.00 for the school year which includes a $50.00 volunteer deposit. Uniform cost is approximately $50.00 The $50.00 volunteer deposit will be fully refunded or credited to the next year, pending a minimum of 6 hours parent volunteer participation at WBC hosting dates and both WBC Spring events. Spring events are the Shamrock Classic - March 16-18, 2018 and the AAU State Tourney - May 4-6, 2018. Volunteer credit or refunds are at the discretion the Board. 

We would like all girls be evaluated. We want to ensure each girl is correctly placed on a team, where she will be challenged and improve her skills. For this reason an evaluation process is necessary. We don't consider it a try-out with cuts, because each young lady will be placed on a team commiserate with her ability, (an A/B travel, or encouraged to join a developmental in-house team).

The evaluation is closed to parents.  Please drop your player on time, and pick up on time. We will be looking at many potential players in a short period of time. Your promptness is vital to our success.

Travel Player Selection

  1. Travel team players must live in Westfield/Washington School district.
  2. The Board will organize travel team evaluations prior to in-house team selections. There must be enough quality players to be evaluated for each travel team (as determined by the Board) or the following applies:
    • Grade levels will be combined to form a team. If there are still not enough quality players to select a travel team, then:
    • 2nd graders will be encouraged to try-out for the 3rd grade travel team and adjustments may be made at other grade levels. If there are still not enough quality players to select a team, then:
    • Westfield may opt not to sponsor a travel team for that grade or grouping of grades, and players will be encouraged to play in-house.
  3. The Board or his/her designate will form an evaluation committee to evaluate the players. This committee should have at least three members. Committee members cannot evaluate their own son/daughter.
  4. Travel team evaluation dates will be publicly posted prior to the first evaluation date. Spectators will not be allowed in the gym during player evaluations.
  5. There will be a minimum of three evaluation criteria consisting of but not limited to the following:
    • Attitude, hustle, following instructions.
    • Physical condition
    • Basketball fundamentals
    • Game situations
  6. Players are requested to attend both evaluation dates. The evaluation committee will select the players by a method agreed upon by the majority of committee members.
  7. The final travel team roster will be posted after the final evaluation time, and the players will be contacted by email by their coach.
  8. Exceptions to any of these rules must meet with Board approval.

Travel Coach Selection

The Board will appoint the Head travel coach.
The Head Travel Team Coach may select his/her own assistant(s)
The Head Travel Team Coach or his/her designate must attend Board meetings during the season.

Shamrock Classic

The Shamrock Classic is known as the first event of the Club Season for many midwest teams.  It has been attended by teams from MI, OH, IL, MO, WV.  It is attended by both recruiting services as well as college coaches.  It is held at Westfield Schools, as well as other nearby venues.
